Celebrating Creativity and Collaboration: BLAST Youth Theatre’s End of Term Show

This past term has been a whirlwind of creativity, hard work, and joy for BLAST Youth Theatre. Last week, our talented members showcased their end-of-term performance to an enthusiastic audience of family and friends at Southend’s Twenty One.

A Theatrical Journey: From Gallery to Stage

The inspiration for this term’s production came from a visit to the Storm Warning exhibition at Focal Point Gallery. Coupled with a focus on the pressing issue of plastic pollution on our coastline, the young performers devised a piece that was both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Their show featured an array of sea creature puppets, a cleverly designed translation machine enabling characters to converse with humans, and a delightful take on a familiar song. These elements, crafted with passion and creativity, brought a unique and engaging narrative to life on stage.

“I loved the confidence in all the children and you could see their pride! Brilliant that it was about a local topic they could relate to.”

Community Support and Partnerships

The success of this show was made possible by the support of our audience and the dedication of our community partners. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who attended the performance and to our partners at Welcome To The UK. We are also deeply grateful to the Postcode Places Trust for their generous funding, which helps us continue our mission of fostering creativity in young people.

Loved the humour and diversity in the performance. As K’s class teacher, I can see the impact this group is having on her confidence in school
