On the Big Screen

Tales of The Sea team and Project 49 were thrilled to see their work on Focal Point Gallery’s Big Screen Southend last week.

Tales of The Sea came about when Project 49 wanted to give their service users the opportunity to try new things, meet new people, connect & have fun after such a long time isolated due to the pandemic.

Participants worked with storyteller & theatre maker Hannah Brailsford & masked theatre specialist, Bernadette Wakeling from The Complete Commedia to learn new creative skills to tell their own stories & share their experience of living by the seaside in a celebration of Southend & our community.

During the project we worked with Film 49, based at Project 49, who made a short film documenting  the creative process of Tales of The Sea.

The final fifteen minute film premiered on Thursday 10 March 22 on Focal Point Gallery’s Big Screen Southend and then shown for the next two weeks everyday between 9am-11am & 5pm-6pm.

Tales of The Sea was supported through funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery through the Postcode Places Trust and Southend Emergency Fund.
