ZineLab: Creative Tech Project Launches
We’re excited to introduce Zine Lab, a brand-new creative project in partnership with Southend Libraries, designed especially for Southend Young Carers. Led by artist Connor Turansky, this innovative 10-week project invites young people to explore the world of pop-up zines with a digital twist!
At Zine Lab, participants will dive into the art of traditional paper engineering, combining hands-on creativity with augmented reality (AR) technology to produce their own multi-sensory masterpieces. This blend of tactile design and digital innovation allows for powerful self-expression, storytelling and exploration.
The project provides a welcoming space for young carers to connect, collaborate and share their experiences. Through the creative process, we aim to support mental health and well-being, reduce loneliness, and foster a sense of belonging. Participants will also build valuable social and communication skills, encouraging teamwork and mutual support.
Zine Lab offers opportunities for young carers to boost their confidence and explore their aspirations. By gaining experience with digital art and AR, they will develop practical creative skills that could open doors to future opportunities in the arts and technology sectors.
We are incredibly grateful to the Four Acre Core Cost Fund, administered by Essex Community Foundation and Arts Council England, for making this project possible. Their support ensures young carers have access to meaningful, creative experiences that inspire growth and self-expression.
We can’t wait to see the amazing creations that will emerge from Zine Lab. Stay tuned for updates as our participants bring their visions to life and explore the limitless possibilities of their imagination.
