Looking to the future with Triple Ts
Elevator Arts are working with the young people at SAVS’ Turning Tides’ Triple Ts youth group to discover their hopes and dreams for the future and find a positive focus through the Covid19 crisis in our new project, Tomorrow Tales.
Back in Feb 2020 Elevator Arts came into being and then the world as we knew it changed, the pandemic had hit the UK and we went into lockdown. It soon became clear that as a society, whilst protecting ourselves from Covid 19 our mental wellbeing was being badly affected.
Most people would admit to having higher levels of stress and anxiety over this period and feelings of isolation & loneliness have intensified. Just imagine how the youngest in our communities have felt, particularly those already vulnerable with precarious financial & home situations and not able to go school, see friends & family, or access support services.
Elevator Arts knew that providing access to creative arts activities would prove essential to re-connect with young people at this traumatic time.
Local organisations like Turning Tides’ Triple Ts were seeing the impact of Covid 19 on young people’s wellbeing first hand. Triple Ts is funded by Children In Need and provides weekly sessions, focussing on building confidence, improving wellbeing & educating about hidden harms for youngsters aged 8-12 years based in Southend’s most disadvantaged areas.
Through conversations with Triple Ts staff Elevator Arts developed Tomorrow Tales. The project uses drama & theatre making skills to reflect on the current situation but also develop a positive, hopeful approach to the future and build up participants’ confidence, resilience & aspirations.
Elevator Arts have joined forces with Blown Fuse Theatre to deliver dynamic, fun workshops ranging from creative writing & improvisation to mask making & physical theatre.
The young people hope to share their work with an invited audience of family & friends at the end of the project, Covid permitting!
Tomorrow Tales is gratefully funded by the ROSCA Trust & Southend Emergency Fund.
